Eagle Scaffolding Services, Inc. erected two sections of sidewalk shed at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, NY for E.W. Howell Construction Group, providing pedestrian protection during demolition of the entrance canopy. Working around an active mall entrance meant the job had to run overnight.
The shed measured 16 feet wide by 24 feet long at 10 feet in height, with safety netting installed along both interior leg lines. The netting provided lateral containment within the structure, keeping the protected path clear of debris during overhead demolition work.
Both sections were installed and signed off in a single shift.
SCAFFOLDING TERMINOLOGY
What is a sidewalk shed?
A sidewalk shed is a temporary structure built over a public walkway to protect pedestrians from falling debris during construction or demolition work above. Local building codes often require one whenever work at height is happening near a sidewalk. At Smith Haven Mall, Eagle erected two full sections overnight, keeping the entrance protected for shoppers before the mall opened the next morning.
