Systems Scaffold Stair Tower for Bridge Anchorage Access | RFK Bridge, New York, NY

A project by Eagle Scaffolding Services

American Bridge Company needed access up and down RFK Bridge’s anchorages, the massive concrete structures that anchor the bridge on the Wards Island and Queens sides. The job called for a modular systems stair tower reaching the safe span platform below the road deck, giving crews a secure way in and out of a workspace that would otherwise be inaccessible.

This job required material logistics to deliver necessary supplies to sites on both sides of the river. At Wards Island, the crew installed system scaffold up through multiple tie points and added panel wall enclosures with hinge doors for access. At the Queens anchorage, Eagle installed scaffold up to the first tie point and again built a panel wall with a hinge door for safe access and jobsite security.

Every scaffold went through a formal walkthrough and engineer sign-off before being cleared for use, per standard practice. The Queens anchorage project also included an interior phase, where Eagle built scaffold access inside the anchorage structure before returning later to dismantle it once American Bridge’s work was complete.

For Eagle, jobs like this are routine. That’s exactly why American Bridge works with us.
